I knew about her stories with solomon and stuff, and like you said her associations with love and sexuality should be taken into account with the lore of the series how anything can be deified and manifested. I just can't help but think there is going to be something more to her. The fact we are finally seeing her fight instead of being passive and neutral and this talk about her journey of self-discovery is making me think there is more to her than meets the eye.

First is her sexuality. While the book explains it as sexual sacrifice for her to stay strong as even Bast did something similar with Shadow when they had intercourse, but in the show this seems to be something unique to her and something she has always done. I did a lot of research and didn't find anything relating her to sex, other than the story of her being beautiful, and some stories saying she was half Jinn. Then in season one in her flashback she watches being destroyed is in the Himyarite Kingdom in southern Yemen. One of the four major tribal federations was Saba which some believe to be the biblical Sheba.

I wonder if maybe this version of Bilquis started as Ishtar, but was later changed into Bilquis but keeping with the love aspects and none of the war, perhaps they wanted a more benevolent version of Ishtar and also it was a cultural decision as well to help different cultures interact. Seeing that temple being destroyed was in Yemen I think it is very likely believers in Ishtar met with people who believed in Bilquis to make a new version. Just like how she inspired Astarte and Aphrodite.

Plus in the recent Bilquis promo for season three Yetilde says Bilquis is on a journey of self-discovery and will become more than anyone imagined. Now this could just be metaphorical but what if it is about Bilquis tapping into her ancient roots and using her war aspect to fight in the war. The water thing could be explained due to her Djinn heritage (Maribs) or just some random god power.

Also loved how you brought up Ishtar, Astarte and Aphrodite, this youtube channel I watch called overly sarcastic did a video about the latter and her development.

Bilquis True Power

So after seeing the latest promo which featured Bilquis I have been wondering if she is also based on the goddess Ishtar. While Bilquis is mentioned in some stories as being part jinn she is never referred to as a goddess and while in the book it could be explained she used sex as a form of sacrifice the show seems to have solidified this is something she has always done, only they don't die per say, merely live in some dimension of pure pleasure.

Now at first I assumed this could be explained as some new lore for her, but as we all know there can be multiple versions of a deity. So what if this Bilquis is a version of the queen of Sheba from the story of Solomon but what if this version is mixed with Ishtar, a goddess of sex, war, political power and justice.

We also know multiple versions of the same god can exist, since in the mythos deities are the result of human prayer, worship, belief and so on this is why we see so many versions of Jesus in the season one finale.

Now there are plenty of cases where religions would be mixed such as the Greek/Roman pantheon being mixed with the Egyptian pantheon, merging certain gods like Jupiter-Amun. So lets assume this is a version of Bilquis that had been merged with elements of Ishtar. What does that mean?

It means that Bilquis could potentially be one of the most powerful old gods, Ishtar herself was revered for her power but did have a huge ego and a bad temper. But if you replace that with the wisdom and patience of the queen of Sheba and that is truly formidable.

Now while she isn't worshipped as she once was, she has admitted that she has been growing in strength since she started using the New Gods technology to spread her worship.

I also find it interesting when I remember the talk she had with World, how she described love and war as two sides of the same coin which must never meet. If she is partly Ishtar she would know all about love and war. It also would explain why world wants her on his side.

What do you guys think? Could she be part Bilquis and part Ishtar? Will we see her fight and show off her power this season?

Yes, but in the show she told Sweeny she has adapted after he commented on her sermon. I'm just wondering if they are going to add a resurrection ability since she is immersing herself more into Christian lore.

Bilquis and Shadow

So I have been wondering what the writers have planned for Bilquis. As those who have read the book know she only appears in two chapters while on the show she has played a bigger role and been given a lot more plot.
So the chances of Ostara coming back are slim since Kristen Chenoweth left. Of course they could recast her, but I have been wondering what if they are going to switch things up and give her role to Bilquis instead?
If you haven't read the book beware there will be spoilers.
So in the book after Shadow dies he is brought back by Ostara, but what if they decide to make Bilquis the one who brings him back? Now I know she doesn't have anything to do with resurrection but as far as I know she didn't have anything to do with sex in mythology either. Also this season she seems to have taken a Christian flavor. We also know that that card she got ha something to do with Shadow and she confirmed they have a connection in the season finale. 
It would be interesting to see how they adapt resurrection into her storyline and would be happy to see her have such a bigger role in the show then she did in the book.

Thor said he and Columbia would go to California and have children and the books have shown that the gods can have kids with mortals so yes they can have kids

Season 2 Hype!

So we're only a few weeks away from season 2 and with the trailers and what they have revealed about this season I am excited.
One thing I am looking forward to is the meeting of the gods. They have shown small clips of the meeting revealing the gods in their divine form. One great thing is not all the gods present were named so this gives us a chance to see who the other deities in attendance were.
Character expansion has been a thing of the show. Bilquis, the Jinn, Salim, Laura and Mad Sweeny all had small roles in the book but on the show they have had bigger roles. I especially like what they did with Bilquis and can't wait to see what they do to her next. Bast is supposed to appear in season 2 and Mama-Ji/Kali is supposed to be playing a big role this season as well. It also looks like Thor may be appearing and we may be getting to see some of Wednesdays past so lots of development and backstory to look forward to.
What are you guys looking forward to or want to see this season?
